Southern Utah's Jackson Stevenett has earned the StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week for the week ending January 28th. StatSheet's Big Sky Freshman of the Week goes to Eastern Washington's Venky Jois. And finally, Weber State's Gelaun Wheelwright takes home StatSheet's Big Sky 6th Man of the Week. Stevenett tallied huge numbers in rebounding (4.7 per game), shooting (60%), and scoring (18.7 pts per game). The Southern Utah senior put these numbers up in victories versus Portland State and Eastern Washington and a loss to Montana State.
Stevenett contributed 19 points on 57% shooting in 40 minutes in a 76-68 loss to Montana State. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 21 points plus an additional 3 assists in a 76-63 victory over Portland State. Finally, Stevenett racked up 6 rebounds and 70% shooting, closing out the week with a 69-55 win over Eastern Washington.
This is the first time this season that Jackson Stevenett has been selected StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Weber State junior Davion Berry. Honorable mention goes to senior Mathias Ward from Montana. Aaron Moore finished eighth and was the highest ranking player from Portland State.
StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week: Eastern Washington's Venky Jois
Venky Jois saw 30 minutes of playing time as a starter for Eastern Washington. In a 69-55 loss to Southern Utah, Jois tallied 11 points and 7 rebounds.
Venky Jois has won the StatSheet Big Sky Freshman of the Week an astounding 4 times. The runner-up is Daniel Hill from Eastern Washington. Thomas Reuter from Eastern Washington takes honorable mention.
StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week: Weber State's Gelaun Wheelwright
Gelaun Wheelwright, a sophomore and a 6-1 guard, averaged 25 minutes of action over two games for the Wildcats. In a 79-74 loss to Montana State, Wheelwright put up 5 points and 2 rebounds. Then in a 76-74 loss to Montana, he racked up 9 points and 3 rebounds.
Gelaun Wheelwright has won the StatSheet Big Sky 6th Man of the Week a total of 3 times. Colin Chiverton, a senior forward from Eastern Washington, is runner up. Jordan Hickert, a senior forward from Eastern Washington, receives honorable mention. Portland State players have been named StatSheet Big Sky Player of the Week once this season.
